Demand rises for web designers knowing JAVA, Cloud, HTML

In the wake of the pandemic, as more businesses and consumers turn to digital platforms, the importance of improving website quality has become evident. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has noted the significant growth of e-commerce in developing nations. This growth has created a demand for web developers and designers to enhance user interface (UI) and user experiences (UX). Enrollment in web development courses has also seen a significant increase of 230% from 2017 to 2021, according to Internshala, an internship and training platform. Government organizations, such as police departments, are also recruiting web designers and developers, as exemplified by a recent advertisement by the Haryana Police seeking web designers.

Sujit Kumar Chakrabarti, an associate professor at IIIT Bangalore, explains that a large portion of web traffic now comes from mobile phones. He emphasizes the need for responsive websites that cater to all devices, which has led to a higher demand for professionals skilled in web design and development. Chakrabarti advises students interested in pursuing a career in this field to gain fundamental knowledge of software design and engineering principles.

Priti Gangwar, Chief Operating Officer at Arena Animation, notes that students are enrolling in courses related to animation, web development, VFX, and gaming due to the increased job demand. She mentions that students from Tier II and III cities often lack proper information about these career options and require guidance in choosing the appropriate course. Gangwar emphasizes the vast career opportunities available in this field, such as becoming a VFS designer, 3D lighting artist, animator, or motion graphic designer, among others.

Mayank Kumar, Managing Director of upGrad, a leading online education platform, highlights the need for individuals to acquire new and in-demand skills to adapt to the evolving job market. He identifies programming languages like Java, Python, and C/C++ as essential skills that will continue to dominate the job market, as employers seek professionals who can quickly adapt to technological advancements. Kumar adds that software development courses, particularly those focused on Java, OODAP, DSA, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, MERN, AWS, SQL, and NoSQL, alongside Cloud Native specialization, are increasingly popular among the current workforce. Enrollment intent for software development programs has seen a 120% increase in 2021 compared to the previous year, indicating a growing demand in the industry.

Shakun Bansal, Vice President and Head of Marketing and Growth at Mercer|Mettl, mentions that individuals proficient in programming languages like HTML and JavaScript are sought after as content and backend coders to create visually appealing content and interfaces for apps and websites.

Arjun Nair, Co-founder of Great Learning, highlights that candidates with programming language expertise are hired for various roles, such as software engineers, full-stack engineers, backend engineers, graduate engineer trainees, members of technical staff, software developers, programmer analysts, quality analysts, database administrators, and production support engineers. Nair emphasizes that expertise in full-stack web development is highly sought after by startups, multinational corporations, financial organizations, consulting companies, and government bodies. He concludes that upskilling is crucial for freshers and early-stage professionals seeking a career in this domain to remain competitive in the job market.
